Deck Replacement & Rebuilds in North Georgia
When Repairs Stop Making Sense, Rebuild It Right
Every deck has a point of no return. Once rot reaches the framing or the footings start moving, each repair only buys time on a structure that keeps failing. Full deck replacement resets the clock: new footings, new framing, new decking and railings, all engineered to the current Georgia building code instead of whatever was standard when your old deck went up. Because North Georgia Elite Decks was founded by a full home builder, your rebuild gets house-grade structure from the ground up.
Replacement is also the cheapest moment to upgrade. With the structure coming down anyway, converting to Trex® composite decking, adding better railings, or enlarging the footprint costs far less than changing course later. We rebuild decks across Woodstock, Alpharetta, Canton, Cumming, Jasper and Ellijay with our own crew, permits and inspections included.

Deck Replacement Questions, Answered
How much does it cost to replace a deck in North Georgia?
Most full replacements run $8,000–$50,000+ with demolition and haul-off included. A 12×16 like-for-like rebuild in pressure-treated wood starts around $8k; a 16×20 replaced in Trex® typically lands $19k–$30k. Size, height, material and railing choice drive the final number, and the free calculator gives you a personalized range in under a minute.
Do you need a permit to rebuild a deck?
Yes. A full replacement counts as new construction in every North Georgia county we serve, so it requires a building permit and inspections even at the same size and location. We pull the permit, build to the current IRC with Georgia Amendments, and schedule both the footing and final inspections for you.
Can I replace my wood deck with composite decking?
Absolutely, and replacement is the ideal time to do it. The new frame is engineered for composite from day one, so there’s no retrofit cost. As a TrexPro® Platinum installer we rebuild in Trex® or TimberTech® with 25 to 50 year fade and stain warranties, and you never stain a deck again.
How long does a full deck replacement take?
Once the permit is in hand, demolition usually takes a day or two and the rebuild runs 1 to 2 weeks for standard decks, 2 to 3 weeks for elevated or multi-level projects. Permitting itself varies by county, typically 1 to 3 weeks, and you get a written schedule before we start.
What happens to my old deck?
We demolish it, load it, and haul it away as part of every replacement. Disposal fees are built into your quote, and salvageable metal is recycled. Your yard is raked clean before the first new footing is poured.
Can you reuse my existing footings or posts?
Occasionally, but honestly, not often. Most older footings are too shallow or too small for current code, and reusing marginal footings under a new deck defeats the purpose of replacing it. If yours genuinely pass inspection we’ll reuse them and you’ll see the savings in the quote.
