Paver Patios
Built on 8 Inches You'll Never See

Paver Patio Builders in North Georgia

A paver patio is a room made of stone, and like any room, it's only as good as its foundation. We excavate, compact and build patios that stay dead level through Georgia clay, Georgia rain and Georgia summers, then make them beautiful on top.

Patio Builders Who Obsess Below the Surface

Anyone can lay pavers in a pretty pattern. The difference between a patio that’s still flat in fifteen years and one that ripples by year three is everything underneath: excavation depth, base material, and compaction done in lifts, not one lazy pass. North Georgia Elite Decks builds paver and natural stone patios the way we build structures, with the invisible work treated as the real work.

Where this fits: patios are the ground-level answer. When your yard slopes hard or you want elevation, a custom deck is usually the better tool, and our deck vs porch vs patio guide settles the choice honestly. Grade changes and slope problems belong to retaining walls, and fire pits and walkways round out under hardscaping. We build across Canton, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Cumming, Jasper and Ellijay.

What We Build

Paver & Stone Patios We Build

Six ways to put a floor on your backyard, each built on the same uncompromising base.

Concrete Paver Patios

The versatile workhorse: dozens of colors and patterns, repairable one paver at a time, never a crack across the middle.

Flagstone & Natural Stone

Irregular stone fitted like a puzzle for the organic, been-here-forever look mountain properties wear best.

Fire Pit Patios

A circular or squared patio designed around a built-in fire feature, with seating distance planned before the first paver.

Under-Deck Patios

The shaded space beneath an elevated deck paved into a second living level. Two rooms, one footprint.

Walkways & Steps

Paths and steps that connect patio, deck, driveway and door so the yard works as one plan.

Patio Extensions

Existing slab or patio too small? We extend with pavers that complement what's there instead of clashing with it.
The Craft Nobody Photographs

The Eight Inches You Never See

Here's the full stack under every patio we build, from Georgia clay to finished stone. Cheap patios skip layers. Ours don't.

Anatomy of our patio base, bottom to top:

Read it like a core sample. Every layer has one job, and skipping any of them shows up within two winters.
Georgia red clay
Graded and sloped away from the house before anything else happens.
Geotextile fabric
Keeps clay and gravel from swapping places when saturated. The layer bargain bids omit.
Crushed gravel base
4 to 6 inches, compacted in lifts with a plate compactor, not dumped and prayed over.
Bedding sand
One screeded inch, dead level, the mattress your pavers sleep on.
Pavers or stone
Set tight to pattern, borders cut clean, restrained at every edge so nothing walks.
Polymeric sand joints
Swept, misted and hardened to lock pavers together and starve the weeds.
About that clay: Georgia red clay looks great on a football jersey and behaves terribly under a patio. It swells when soaked, shrinks when baked, and drains like a dinner plate. Our base depths and drainage slopes exist specifically because of it, which is why patios built to "national average" specs ripple here and ours don't.
One Builder, Both Levels

Decks and Patios Work Better as a Team

Most hardscapers can't build your deck. Most deck builders won't touch your patio. We're the contractor who designs both as one backyard.

The two-level backyard

Deck above for dining off the kitchen, paver patio below for the fire pit and shade. One design, one crew, one schedule, and the stairs land exactly where both levels want them.

How It Works

Our Paver Patio Process

Five steps, and the middle three happen below your future floor.
1

Design & Layout FREE

We measure, talk sun and traffic flow, mark the footprint with paint, and quote it itemized.
2

Excavate & Grade

Sod and clay out to proper depth, subgrade sloped for drainage, fabric down.
3

Base & Compaction

Gravel installed in lifts and plate-compacted each pass. The step that decides whether year fifteen looks like day one.
4

Screed, Set & Cut

Bedding sand screeded level, pavers laid to pattern, borders and curves cut clean with a wet saw.
5

Lock, Clean & Walkthrough

Edge restraint anchored, polymeric sand hardened, patio rinsed, care sheet in your hand.

The NGE Difference

Why Our Patios Stay Flat

01

Base Depth Standards

Excavation and gravel depths set for Georgia clay, compacted in lifts and checked, never eyeballed.
02

Drainage First

Every patio slopes away from your foundation by design, with downspouts and runoff routed before stone goes down.
03

Clean Cuts, Tight Borders

Wet-saw cuts and anchored edge restraint on every border. The details that separate craft from a weekend project.
04

Whole-Backyard Thinking

Deck, patio, walls and walkways designed together by one builder, so nothing gets built twice or torn out later.
