Reading Your Number

What Actually Moves a Patio or Wall Price

Six variables explain nearly every dollar of difference between two hardscape projects of the same size. Knowing them makes any quote easier to judge, including ours.

Square footage

The starting multiplier. Bigger patios cost more in total but slightly less per square foot, since excavation setup and mobilization spread across more area.
Impact: sets the baseline

Surface material

Concrete pavers to natural flagstone can nearly double the per-square-foot rate. The base underneath is the same either way, and it is not the place to save.
Impact: up to 2x

Wall height

Under 3 feet is landscaping. Past 4 feet is engineering, with stamped drawings, geogrid layers and inspections. Same wall length, very different project.
Impact: up to 5x per foot of wall

Terrain and access

North Georgia clay, rock and slopes decide how the digging goes. Tight side yards mean hand-hauling base material instead of driving it in.
Impact: about 12 percent

Pattern and borders

Herringbone fields, soldier-course borders and curved edges take more cuts and more time than a straight-edged running bond. Custom looks price like it.
Impact: about 15 percent

Built-in features

Fire pits, seating walls and stone steps turn a surface into a room. They price as their own line items, which is exactly how the calculator shows them.
Impact: $3k to $9k each
